Many of our graduates have gone on to carve a niche in the financial industries, both in Singapore and internationally.
Here's what they have to say about their experience in the MFE programme:
Anand Goyal

"After graduating with a EEE degree from NTU, I joined JP Morgan. I wanted to gain in depth knowledge in the Financial Sector and decided to pursue a Financial Engineering Masters at NTU. I had no doubts about MFE being the course of my choice because it integrated Quantitative with Qualitative Finance. It’s a unique mix and such a skill set is really sought after if you are looking to make it to Wall Street. Apart from the various financial skills , I also learnt time management. Working and studying at the same time is not easy and this course taught me to manage time more effectively
In my role as an Associate in IB Technology, I found it so much easier to talk to the front office people and provide technological solutions to their business needs. Sometimes the Business people were really amazed with the skill set I possess and I thank NTU and its professors for equipping me with the same!
In Feb 2008, MFE also helped me in making a transition over to the front office and I am now responsible for selling the Electronic FX solutions of the bank. If not for the MFE, such a transition would not have been possible.”

Catherine Tan

"Having graduated with a Mathematics degree from NUS, I embarked on a banking career, specializing in non performing loans. Two years on, I wanted to move into Risk Management which was fast becoming the cornerstone in the banking industry. This led me to enroll into MSc Financial Engineering with NTU (in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University). With a Mathematical background and on-the-job training in Finance, this course that provides a good blend of Finance, Mathematics and Computing made my 2 years with NTU exciting, enriching and fulfilling. The rigorous curriculum and highly quantitative subjects that we handled helped in my transition into Credit Risk Management. Financial Engineering is fast catching on in the Financial industry. From Singapore to London, I have many opportunities to interact with many others who had obtained similar degrees in other universities and I can see how useful the knowledge we had gained during our Financial Engineering journey is in helping us move in time in this fast paced financial world."

"I came to Singapore seven years ago and graduated from NTU with a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. After working as an IT Engineer for one and a half years. I became interested in the financial industry and NTU’s Financial Engineering program came into the picture.
The combination of Mathematics, Finance and Computing in its syllabus was perfect for me, given my background. The course gave me fundamental knowledge in corporate finance, financial instruments, pricing theory and risk management. I also learned about the industry from a practical point of view from my classmates who already had prior exposure to the financial industry.
My current role as part of an Investment Banking Technology team requires mixture of knowledge in technology and finance. The ground concepts I learnt from the program are very useful and are indeed the stepping stones for a successful career in banking!"
