Professor Cheong Siew Ann joined the Division of Physics and Applied Physics, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the Nanyang Technological University as an Assistant Professor in August 2007. He received his BSc (Hons) in Physics from the National University of Singapore in 1997, and his PhD in Physics from Cornell University in 2006. Besides his research interests in bioinformatics and computational physics, he is also interested in the study of complex systems, which include granular media, biochemical pathways and developmental biology models, vehicular traffic, and financial markets. In particular, he is interested in applying the suite of ideas and techniques of statistical physics to investigate large-scale self-organization in financial markets, using as tools mean-field models and agent-based simulations.
